Dynamic Maps, GIS Data, and Analysis Tools - Solar Maps

Solar maps provide monthly average daily total solar resource information on grid cells.  The insolation values represent the resource available to a flat plate collector, such as a photovoltaic panel, oriented due south at an angle from horizontal to equal to the latitude of the collector location.  This is typical practice for PV system installation, although other orientations are also used.

Information on rebates, tax credits

Go Solar California site provides consumers a "one-stop shop" for information on rebates, tax credits, and incentives for solar energy systems in California.

Department of Energy - Tax Breaks - explains Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credits for consumers who install solar energy systems (including solar water heating and solar electric systems), etc.

Solar Energy Industries Associations

California Solar Energy Industries Association supports the widespread adoption of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems by educating consumers, supporting solar legislation and conducting business in a professional and ethical manner.

Every individual Californian can help California meet its demands for energy by being energy efficient and by using solar energy!

SEIA - Solar Energy Industries Association works to expand the use of solar technologies, strengthen research and development, remove market barriers, and improve education and outreach for solar.

American Solar Energy Society - the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society is the nation's leading association of solar professionals & advocates.  ASES mission is to inspire an era of energy innovation and speed the transition to a sustainable energy economy.  ASES leads national efforts to increase the use of solar energy, energy efficiency and other sustainable technologies in the U.S.  They publish the award-winning SOLAR TODAY magazine, organize and present the ASES National Solar Conference and lead the ASES National Solar Tour – the largest grassroots solar event in the world.

The International Solar Energy Society - A Global Alliance (ISES) has been serving the needs of the renewable energy community since its founding in 1954.  A UN-accredited NGO present in more than 50 countries, the Society supports its members in the advancement of renewable energy technology, implementation and education all over the world.  It is a multi-faceted, global membership organization.  With its long history and extensive technical and scientific expertise provided by its members, the Society is a modern, future-oriented non-governmental organization (NGO).  Clearly defined goals, extensive communication networks and practical, real-world projects are the hallmarks of ISES.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) / Kids Saving Energy
- has games, information about renewable energy, and tips about energy efficiency for kids.

EIA Energy Kids Page - Energy Information Administration tells kids all the facts about energy in a fun way. Explains energy in history, great for teacher resources and student projects.

SEI: Kids' Info - Solar Energy International video tutorials for kids on solar energy, hydrogen power, and wind energy.

Sustainable Technologies Organizations

Solar Action Alliance - Solar Action Alliance is a platform for a large group of like-minded people who are concerned about the environment and what the world will be like in the future if nothing is done to conserve its energy sources. Solar energy is available freely, it’s abundant, it’s clean, it’s reliable and what is the most important thing it’s renewable energy from the sun. Far less of the world’s resources are depleted to supply energy if the sun is used to fulfill our insatiable demand for it.

National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service - National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service is managed by the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) and is funded under a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Business-Cooperative Service.  It provides information and other technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, Extension agents, educators, and others involved in sustainable agriculture in the United States.  (ATTRA was formerly known as the "Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas" project.)  This resource discusses basic principles of solar greenhouse design, as well as different construction material options. Books, articles and Web sites, and computer software relevant to solar greenhouse design are all provided in a resource list.

National Center for Appropriate Technology - NCAT is a private nonprofit organization, founded in 1976, which operates a series of publicly-funded projects to promote self-reliance (especially for low-income people) through wise use of appropriate technology. Its programs deal with energy conservation, resource-efficient housing, sustainable community development, and sustainable agriculture.

USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Service - (USDA-RBS) helps implement the rural development mission of USDA. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for all rural Americans by providing leadership in building competitive businesses including cooperatives that can build sustainable economic communities. RBS objectives are to invest its financial resources and technical assistance in businesses and communities, and to build partnerships that leverage public and private resources to stimulate rural economic activity.
