Solar string lights for more than just garden decor.

Posted By: Mario Villalobos on October 20, 2014 in Creative Solar, Solar News - Comments: No Comments »

So we have used solar string and rope lighting for our gardens and landscaping around our homes. But if you think about it, this marvelous lighting feature can be used in creative ways that were perhaps not considered outside of the year-round settings at home. When applied correctly, solar string and rope lighting can be used for temporary installments at parties, get-togethers, dinner engagements and even at weddings! Think about it, you can charge the solar lights in the day prior to the event, keeping the switch in the off position. Then, when an event is planned, the lights can be installed and simply switched on for the party. No need for connecting to a power supply or having extension cords running all over the place. And when the party’s over, just pack them up and charge accordingly prior the next soiree.

Solar string lights can be placed on table arrangements or other “islands” where an electricity supply is not available. And why bother with electrical sockets in the first place? Keep it safe and effective with solar string lights. The lighting method is the same (LEDs are used in 120 Volt string lights, why not just go solar to begin with?) and solar lights are a renewable product. There are several options of styles (string vs. rope), color (white, blue, multi-color) and lengths to choose from when considering solar lighting for your parties. Check out the selection at Your Solar Link today! Solar lighting is a simple solution to a sometimes difficult and costly decision. Also, once you pay for solar lights, you don’t have to keep paying the electric company to use your new string lights. The only cost is the replacement of the rechargeable batteries, but they have a typical (daily usage, mind you) lifespan of 2 years. So, if you use solar string lights for events, the lifespan will be even longer. Going solar is a logical and economic answer.

A Green Christmas: Japan Uses Electric Eel to Light Christmas Tree!

Posted By: Your Solar Link Team on December 9, 2010 in Solar News - Comments: No Comments »

Looking for some alternatives to the typical holiday electric fare this year? What is a better Christmas present that a reduced energy bill? While some of us get creative with LED solar powered Christmas string lights, an aquarium in Japan has resolved this problem in by powering a Christmas tree with an electric eel!

See video below:

The Enoshima Aquarium in Kamakura (south of Tokyo) utilizes the eels ability to generate electricity when moving. It effectively powers a two meter Christmas tree. While the power generated isn’t enough to provide consistent light, it is strong enough to allow intermittent flashing.

See video below:

To further add to its eco-friendliness, the aquarium, have also added a robotic Santa Claus powered by human muscle. When visitors to the aquarium step on a pad, it generates electricity.

While the idea of using eel to promote eco-awareness is certainly a good one, you should probably stick with something like solar powered Christmas lights to create our own green Christmas. The decorative outdoor lights are an ideal addition to any home, but with an energy efficient twist you won’t feel guilty when they turn on night after night.

Solar String Lights are ideal to light up your trees, rooftops, doorways, pathways, windows and porches. No wiring. Fast and easy to install. Energy saving, recharged by solar panel under sunlight. Lights turn on automatically when dark. Safe, corrosion/water resistant.
